Deepa Malik (A Spirit in Motion)

Deepa Malik is a Silver medalist in shot-put at RIO Paralympic Games. She is the first Indian woman to win a medal in Paralympics. She is an army man’s wife and a mother of two daughters. A spinal tumour left her paralyzed from waist down which confined her to a wheelchair in 1999.

Deepa has never let her disability come in her way and achieved everything she dreamt of in life. Not willing to spend the rest of her life in a closed room, she decided to chase her dreams despite her condition.

Ability beyond Disability: Life doesn't go as planned but it's ok. Deepa started life afresh on a wheelchair after spinal cord damage. She wanted to change the stereotypical image of wheelchair users that people generally have. She set herself out on a mission to motivate and inspire people with disability. She decided to give hope to others that life is possible even on a wheelchair! Isn't this the true sense of living..

Malik was honored with Arjuna award in 2012.
